How We Help

NATIONAL STRATEGIC IMPACTS

The QRFup Equine Therapy Program provides a nationally replicable model for trauma-informed, alternative therapy that complements clinical mental health interventions. By integrating Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) into its continuum of care, QRFup helps set a new standard for non-clinical, experiential healing for veterans and first responders.

This program directly contributes to national goals for reducing veteran suicide, improving post-service reintegration and enhancing holistic wellness for service-connected populations.

Key National Impacts Include

01

Supporting VA and DoD initiatives for non-traditional mental health interventions and community-based care.

02

Creating a blueprint for replication in other states, using Iowa as the pilot for nationwide

expansion.

03

Establishing a best practices framework in collaboration with national equine organizations

(AQHA, APHA, PINTO) for safe, ethical and effective equine therapy.

04

Promoting veteran-led programs, where veterans and first responders can be trained and employed as facilitators, further reducing unemployment and fostering peer-to-peer

healing models.

05

Influencing national policy and funding allocations towards innovative, animal-assisted

therapy programs through data-driven reporting and success metrics.

HERO COMPLEX THERAPIES

It will take a community to bring this vision to life. Our veterans and first responders deserve a safe and nurturing place to heal, and this facility represents a bold, compassionate step toward that goal. We are ready to break ground and begin building a future of recovery and dignity for those who have served. Please join us in this mission.

The initial on-site in Iowa will be QRFup’s Equine Therapy Program to enhance the state’s mental health and veteran care infrastructure by addressing gaps in trauma-informed, nature-based therapy. Iowa’s rural communities often face limited access to traditional

behavioral health services, and veterans in these areas are especially vulnerable to

isolation, depression, and unmet therapeutic needs.

State-level Impacts Include:

  • Expanding access to alternative mental health services in both urban and rural areas, supporting underserved populations across Iowa.

  • Contributing to rural health initiatives, supporting the Iowa Department of Public Health’s goals to integrate non-clinical therapies into community wellness strategies.

  • Partnering with Iowa-based veteran service organizations (VSOs), mental health providers, and public agencies to create a comprehensive support network for veterans and first responders.

  • Supporting employment opportunities in equine therapy for Iowa residents, particularly veterans and those with agricultural experience.

  • Serving as a model that other Midwest states can observe and replicate, positioning Iowa as a leader in innovative veteran care.
